home cooked.

you may have noticed i havent been posting as many design projects lately. this is simply because i havent really liked anything ive been making. to put it lightly haha but FINALLY, a project came around that i was stoked about. one i thought i'd be good at. a magazine layout!

we were each given a different subject and age group for a magazine. the subjects were either food, interior design, or gardening. i was so excited that i got food! and for the age group 40-55 year olds. i wanted to create a magazine that would be simple and easy to read but introduce some unique and modern design elements that would be fresh and new to this age group. we were given high res photographs to work with as well as the content (recipes, article text, etc.). and it was our job to create the layout and assemble our own mock up magazine. we needed to include a cover, table of contents, and two inside double spreads. i decided to name the magazine "home cooked" and use alot of warm and inviting tones for a november issue.

im actually very pleased with the way it all turned out. i think it looks like a real magazine!

spread #2

huge shout out to AEC Reprographics for being the best print shop in flagstaff and offering quality printing, great customer service, and affordable pricing! (and printing with bleeds, SO cool.) thanks to them this printed fabulously and on thick creamy white paper for a real magazine effect. kinkos, i may be done with you. (i told you im obsessed with print shops)

oh and ps. some of the recipes we were given to use actually seem quite yummy so holler if you want me to email them to you : )

this was my final project for my typography class so im officially done with type 1! bring on type 2!

This looks great! A project like that encompasses a lot of the things that make up my dream job (aka, editor-in-chief of something...). It really does look like a real magazine. Sweeeeeet.
