!!!! CONTEST !!!!

its true folks. i am officially hosting my very own CONTEST! i can hardly stay in my chair as i type this. below is all the information you will need to know:

whats the contest?
it has to do with something i love. COLOR! one of the 343246 things i love about color, is the names of colors. they always seem to have such personality. and come on people, i think we all know who is the color naming master. duh, the people at crayola. so i am providing you with this link to a website that lists the names of 120 crayola crayon names. YOUR job: pick one. easy enough right? read on.

what to do?
1. pick a favorite crayon name from this website.

2. on an 8.5x11 piece of paper, illustrate the color/name you chose.

you can do this in ANY way you want. it can be funny, random, serious, dramatic... ANYTHING! you dont even have to use the actual color. i want you to get creative. for example, lets say i chose the color "cornflower" which is a soft blue color. perhaps my illustration would include a corn field with flowers growing in it instead of corn? use ANY type of materials you want! paint, crayons, fabric, papers, buttons... anything that will fit on your paper! but nothing with your illustration can be computer generated. get deep with it. incorporate text. use photographs you take. ANYTHING! i just want to see your own interpretation of the color/name.

(keep in mind that this will have to be mailed to me, so please dont exceed the 8.5x11 size)

5. take a picture of your entry or scan a copy of it before you send it to me so there will be proof just in case i need clarification once i pick a winner. i trust all of you will be honest and there wont be any mix ups... but hey, ya never know. and i like how i am acting so official right now. forgive me.

4. mail me your entries no later than FEBRUARY 28th!

all entries must be submitted ANONYMOUSLY. is that even a word? if you think i will recognize your handwriting on the envelope, have someone else write it. im good with handwriting recognition ok?

also, make sure you enclose the name of your color somwhere in what you send me so i dont have to guess which color you are interpreting

5. once i recieve all of the entries (after a 3 day grace period) i will sit down with a few close friends of mine in flagstaff and together we will decide which illustration just speaks to our souls. and THEN i will announce a winner!

whats the prize?
well... there are a few:
1. free photo session!! up to 1.5 hours
we will have to work out scheduling for this depending on when works for you and when i will be in flagstaff and phoenix. this will require some patience on your part but THERE WILL BE A PHOTO SESSION!!
2. free disc with all of the edited images from the session
... and here is the exciting one...
3. free 12x18 wall print >> !!!! (image of your choice from the session)

why am i doing this?
its simple. i first made this blog to have an easier way to show family and friends what i have been up to with my photography/design hobbies. in doing that, i guess it kind of developed into another one of my hobbies. i really enjoy captioning and writing about my sessions/projects. and what i love even more is being able to share that with people who care and take an interest in, what i like to call, my art. SO. back to the simple part. i wanted to do something to celebrate my second year of blogging here. and, more importantly, to celebrate my readers. you.
